Where are my PSone games? eh?
The category of PSOne Games is admittedly on very limited on the European Playstation Store. Do not talk while Square Enix games, subscribers who are virtually absent, if we except Final Fantasy VII.
There have been Silent Hill, but it was withdrawn for reasons of human music.
We admit however that Square Enix does not worse catalog PSOne games, and especially from the Role-Playing:
Final Fantasy (I to IX), a legacy of Squaresoft. Some do not hesitate to say that these are among the best RPG in existence (VI and VII are particularly loved; also the eighth, but differently).
Dragon Quest VII, Enix, never released in Europe. The Dragon Quest, yet it is the franchise that sells best in Japan, before Final Fantasy.
Final Fantasy Tactics, tactical role-playing game (as its name suggests), which was never released in Europe, but had the right to remake a number (the GBA, and PSP).
Front Mission series of tactical role-playing game where you control mechanical devices ( "mecha"). Only the 3rd episode is released in Europe (and still very rare to find).
Chrono Trigger, Parasite Eve, Valkyrie Profile ...
This is not an image from the game
In short, plenty of games, which, if available, would sell like hotcakes ... Recall that when Final Fantasy VII was made available on the Playstation Store, it remained for weeks in the top sales (editor's note and let's face it, it deserved).
Why are you so mean Sony?
Is it the fault of Sony? Yes, partly. First, the validation process of PSOne games is much-more complicated than the validation of specific games PSP or PS3. Why?
conversion must first be functional on both consoles, not just one.
conversion must be legally permissible: in fact, some music (especially in Europe) are licensed and have been licensed for a single media (a CD PSOne). To distribute the game in digital form PSP/PS3 must be on having the rights, or else pay these fees ... It takes time and money.
conversion should be verified in all languages ... and imagine if a game contains 15!
It should also be noted that through (or because) the last point that we've had with Final Fantasy VII 2 weeks late. Indeed, some characters specific to the French language (accents, for example, the cedilla ...) were not passed during the conversion and made the game simply not playable (blocks). Following the validation steps, Sony realized this and has refused to pass the game in France. This was resolved quickly by Square Enix.
But when? and what (s) game (x)?
Square Enix has announced that three big games, Vagrant Story, Final Fantasy VIII and Final Fantasy Tactics should arrive on the Playstation Store. Sony has announced that the release in Europe would not be before 2010 ... January? February? December? We do not know.
